Dalmatian BIS at Melbourne
BEST IN SHOW at Australia’s biggest dog show, Melbourne Royal, went to a Dalmatian bitch bearing a kennel name well known in the UK.
This was Gr Ch Pampard Phrench Kisses owned by Jonathon and Shellie Marshall and Jonathon’s father Ian.
This kennel, founded by Ian and his late wife Pam, enjoyed great success in the UK before emigrating to Australia in 1984, where their wins continued with the next generation. Phrench Kisses is homebred from two Pampard champions.
Runner-up, one place higher than last year, was a Shetland Sheepdog bred in a Canadian kennel which has produced Dachshund winners in the UK, Gr Ch/Can Ch GrandGables Home Town Hero, owned by Elizabeth Lasry. Third was Ben Luxton’s Pug Ch Obsidion Bohemian Storm, and fourth, Carrie Paine’s Irish Setter Ch Tullane Tempranillo.
Best terrier was an Airedale who also took best puppy in show, Ron and Anne Sorraghan’s Oldiron Boomerang – he had also taken BPIS at Sydney Royal. The other group winners were Bryan and Joan Mangelsdorf’s Basset Hound Ch Yarramba Causin Chaos, and Julie Wilkinson and Michael Ng’s Norwegian-bred St Bernard Ch Bernegarden’s Prison Guard, bred in another kennel which has produced many UK winners.
The show’s judges were Ramon Podesta from Chile, Rose-Marie Cabion of South Africa, and Yoshi Mori and Izumi Awashima from Japan.
